UCB People : Hal & Bob

October 14, 2007
From Homepage Album

These two guys went to school with Moses!  On the left is Hal Short the President and Chairman of UCB International.  Hal is directly and personally repsonsible for much of the world wide growth of this amazing UCB family.

For years Hal and Annette worked ‘in faith’, believing The Lord for every needed dollar. Hal was a keynote speaker at a recent training few days at Radio Pulpit in South Africa and I was reminded again at just what this man has given up for the ministry.

The other ‘ white- haired’  gentleman is Bob Gass, author of The Word for Today.  From a small run of 5000 copies to help UCK UK reach their supporters with a small ‘thank you,’ to  today where there is a print run of over 3 million copies in many langauges to many parts of the world. What an amazing devotional, just as real and relevant today as it was all those years ago.

We honour 2 of the great leaders within UCB … Hal Short and Bob Gass.

UCB Philippines : Improvement and Opportunity

October 13, 2007

Chuck QuinleyHello everyone! Two months of continuous work is now bearing fruit as we roll out the new and improved Edge FM! Soon you will be hearing “Twenty the Countdown”, “The Emerging Leader” and “Surf’s Up!” along with many other new additions. You will find out who’s the top selling artist each month, discover the best in new websites and receive teaching that will help you manage your personal life. All this because we genuinely want to be a help to you along your journey through life.

These improvements come at a crucial time. For the first time in three years we are starting to receive proposals from existing Manila FM stations for a takeover opportunity. We really feel that this is the time for contemporary Christian music to take Manila and ask for your earnest prayers for the money we need to lease or purchase one of these stations so we can dedicate it to the Lord’s purpose. Join us in prayer and we will keep you informed of the progress.

Thanks for being our partner as we continue to expand this, the first Christian music FM network for the Philippines.

Best regards!

Chuck Quinley

UCB UK : They did it!

October 12, 2007

Ian MackieThey did it!  Got 2 digital stations to air!  Have a look at this photo of Ian Mackie in the studio throwing his hand up in to the air … why has Ian got his fist closed?

Is it

a) he is Scottish and still holding the first dollar he ever earned

b) or is this  his version of  being ‘ really excited’ … and I suspect that is the correct answer … after 21 years of waiting Ian has finally  fulfilled his  given vision of covering the UK with Christian radio.  Have a look at the cake … divided into 100 pieces each staff member did not get a big piece!.

UCB UK News audio and video material

October 11, 2007

It’s Peter Wooding here, senior news editor for UCB UK.  First of all I had a great trip to Mozambique with Samaritans Purse last month.  I have a lot of great audio material available, and will be producing a half hour In Focus radio documentary to be broadcast on UCB UK on Sunday Dec 2nd.  If anyone would like to receive that or any separate shorter interviews on the various AIDS, orphans and water projects please drop me an email at news7@ucb.co.uk and I can send it to you as an mp3 file either by email or ftp.

My raw video footage is also on its way to Pene Ashby at Shine TV, however we’ve got a major postal strike on at the moment, so please bear with us on that.  I have included generic sign offs if anyone would be interested in using that TV news piece.

We also had a professional photographer from the London Evening Standard on the trip and has produced this stunning powerpoint, check it out: www.rebeccareid.net/mozambique

We are also now producing a daily 3 minute Mission News Update radio show, that includes short interviews with different missions groups each weekday.  Again if you’re interested in receiving that please drop me an email.

 God bless,

 Pete Wooding

UCB Pacific Partners : A prayer request

October 10, 2007

I got this email from Tony in Wewak today.

Tony on top of Laif FM tower“Sorry, I haven’t received those things sent yet. I found out that the plane (Air Niugini) that travels between Port Moresby and Wewak has gone into some kind of major operation, and it hasn’t came back yet. . .

I am assuming all the things are in Port Moresby by now. Waiting to be sent to Wewak.”

Tony is discouraged.

The radio station has been off the air for many weeks while we raised the money and purchased the transmitter parts.
Those parts were sent a month ago and they still have not arrived!

Tony’s email continues . . .

“Please I need your prayer very much, we are so desperate to see the radio station come back and not us but only, but every where I go people are still asking us why is it taking so long? . . . But I do really need your prayers.”

Radio is so very effective for the Gospel especially in a remote place like Wewak

No wonder there is such a battle over getting a few radio parts delivered by plane No wonder there is such a spiritual battle with discouragement for Tony and the radio staff

Would you please pause a minute to pray – now, as you read this email.

Please pray that the parts arrive in Wewak – in good condition and without more delay.

Please pray for Tony and the staff of Laif FM – that they may know the Lord’s peace and encourage in the midst of their difficult days while the station is off the air.

And please add these requests to your daily prayer list. Let us keep praying until we see the breakthrough and Laif FM is back on the air again.

Please email Tony and the staff of Laif FM, click here.

Know more about the ministry of UCB Pacific Partners in Wewak. The Laif FM website, click here.

Just one short line “I am praying for you” is enough to break the sense of isolation and discouragement they are feeling.

(Of course, taking more than a minute to send a longer email or Bible verse, is even better! But these five short words are enough to tell them that their Christian brothers and sisters are standing with them in the battle.)

I’ll let you know as the Lord answers our prayers

UCB UK’s Robbie Frawley

October 9, 2007
From UCB U.K. – Ge…

Over the next few months we’ll show you the faces of some of the UCB family members around the world…..This is Robbie Frawley who is the stations manager in the UK as well as being a well known UK Christian radio name. He is married to Lynn, has a couple of great kids ( Sam and Emma) and is a drummer for his church band.

One of his aims is to play a round of golf that breaks 150 and not leaving the course looking like a ploughed paddock! Being Irish, Robbie has more stories than a library and a photo on the wall of him with Bono that was not constucted on photoshop..it is the real deal.

Feel free to email him…click here ..he’d love to hear from you…..He would be a great interview subject…there is much happening in the UK and the UCB listener family is growing in amazing ways.

Oh…..the photo is of Robbie doing the executive version of Kung Foo.

UCB U.K. – The Angels are singing today!

October 6, 2007

Write this date down, Monday October 8th 2007,  the official launch date of UCB UK’s TWO (yes 2) digital radio channels across most of the UK on DAB. It’s been 21 years in the making, 21 years in the praying and  on Monday the 8th  it will officially become a reality.

Hal ShortFor UCBi President and Chairman Hal Short it will be a special moment, Hal is also Chairman of UCB Europe and will be there to hear it launch together with the other UCB Europe Trustees.

For UCB Europe CEO Ian Mackie it will be a life defining moment. It is a long way from Timaru, New Ian MackieZealand, where Ian first asked Dick Berry ( the UCB founder)  why couldn’t he hear Christian radio in Timaru, the answer Dick gave  Ian  was..’ no one has asked’…Ian put his hand up…then shortly after Hal Short asked  who would go to the UK and begin Christian radio for the UK and again it was Ian that put his hand up!….21 years later it is reality!

Today the blog celebrates the switching on of DAB across the UK (have a listen  www.ucb.co.uk )  and honours Ian Mackie…….as Hal Short would say…’ Jock…you done good!’

Worldwide Day of Prayer

Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem

The International Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem is almost here. This annual event, instituted with the endorsement of hundreds of Christian leaders from around the world, representing tens of millions of Christians, will be held again on October 7.

The organisers are believing for sustained, fervent, informed global intercession for the plans and purposes of God for Jerusalem and all her people. This global grassroots prayer initiative coincides with the season of Yom Kippur , and for the first time in Church history, makes an effort at linking the Christian liturgical calendar with the Biblical, Jewish calendar.

We encourage you to get involved! Tell your friends and tell your church leaders… visit the Day of Prayer website, click here.

Hello rockers…you may have heard that UCB Nigeria is more than a dream….already  The Word for You Today is distributed across the country….and earlier this year a licence was approved  for a commercial FM signal. It is hoped to be on-air by April  of next year.
